Mechanical and Automotive Engineering (MAE)

The Mechanical and Automotive Engineering (MAE) program at The Sirindhorn International Thai-German Graduate School of Engineering (TGGS), King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB) is an international graduate engineering program designed to prepare engineers for the rapidly evolving mechanical, mobility, and automotive industries.

At the Master’s level, the program leads to the Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) in Mechanical and Automotive Engineering, with a standard duration of two years and English as the language of instruction. The program combines advanced engineering theory with simulation, product development, experimental investigation, industrial practice, and research.

The MAE program is organized into two major areas of specialization:

Mechanical Engineering Simulation and Design (MESD) and Automotive Safety and Assessment Engineering (ASAE)

Together, these two fields address important engineering challenges throughout the development cycle of modern mechanical and automotive systems—from product concept, virtual modelling, simulation, and design optimization to vehicle safety, testing, assessment, intelligent driving technologies, and real-world validation.

Educational Philosophy

The educational philosophy of the MAE program follows the industry-oriented engineering education concept of TGGS, which integrates teaching, research, and industrial application and is inspired by the successful engineering education model of RWTH Aachen University in Germany.

Rather than relying solely on textbooks, students are encouraged to apply engineering principles to real engineering problems, research projects, simulations, experiments, and industrial applications. The objective is not only to provide advanced technical knowledge but also to develop engineers who can independently analyze complex problems, make scientifically sound decisions, work effectively in multidisciplinary environments, and create tangible value for industry and society.

This approach makes the program particularly suitable for students who wish to develop a combination of strong theoretical fundamentals, advanced computational skills, practical engineering experience, and research capability.
